Distant would be a good descriptor of Jorus. This is a man who found the beaten, broken, and raped body of his wife, and he sees it replayed in his dreams each night. He opens more to those closest to him, but his tone is often far away. In battle, however, his personality changes.
He laughs with abandon, cursing the men he kills. The more Goths dead, the better. Some have called him crazy, he wouldn't deny it. His bond to Jaeger seems to be the only thing holding him together, as he's the one person he'd call brother.
Though lately, he has seemed to be suffering from more and more depression lately, and even in battle, he hasn't shown that level of joy. Something is certainly bothering him.
Of losses, Jorus has known a few. He was four when his father died, leaving him and his mother alone. Growing up, he did all he could to take care of her, but when he turned fourteen, she too succumbed to illness and died.
Needing to find a way to make ends meet and just survive, he enlisted in the Wyzkow military, with no one as a guardian, the government took him in. And so began an arduous career on the front lines. It was there he first met Jaeger Ulfr, at Blackfen. He had witnessed the man falling in battle, and had tried to get to his side, but was shot before he could, and carried off the battlefield... the battle lost.
He had made his wealth, but the medics couldn't help him, and soon the wound began to fester. He was discharged a week later. He was sent home, disillusioned, broken, and in agony.. It was a young woman named Shera who found him, half dead, in the street.
Shera took him home and revealed her magical abilities, healing his wound, and saving his life. And when his eyes opened, to this day, Jorus felt he had seen an angel. He demanded that she let him repay her in some way, and she asked only for his silence into her power. He had intended to remain quiet anyway, with the Goths threatening invasion, so he took to helping her with the menial chores around the house.
He began courting her, and soon was able to win her affections, they were then married, and had a son, Thomas. Using the wealth he had acquired as a soldier, he moved them out into the countryside, and Jorus took to farming. It was here he had finally found peace.
Working the land, reaping his bounty, with his family at his side? He couldn't be happier. But it wasn't to last. The Gothic armies had taken up occupancy nearby, and the Goths, in need of more food and supplies, began to make demands of some of the farm lands.
He had promised to be back one day, as he went to hawk his wares to market.. on his way home he noticed a plume of black smoke... upon arriving, he noticed a group of six men surrounding someone on the ground while his house burned. Grabbing up the scythe he cut through the men, to find the beaten, broken, tortured, and naked body of his wife.
Fearing the worse, he rushed into the burning house, and soon found the room his son was locked in, getting the three year old boy to safety, he buried his wife, and took his son on his horse, Mary Anne. He needed to be strong for his son, so he refused to grieve until he was able to reach Shera's parents. It was there he entrusted them with the boy, and vowed to grieve in battle against the Goths.
He had sought to die in battle. Throwing himself into the enemy with reckless abandon. Many a new scar found it's way onto his body. Until a day arrived when death came close... and the Wolves of Wyzkow showed up, saving him.
He joined with them, and soon proved his loyalty, sharing the rage and hatred of their leader, Jaeger. And he was more than happy to do whatever was asked of him, so long as the Goths paid. There was no job too big or too small for him.
Then one day, his squad bit off more than they could chew. An ambush had wiped them out, and wounded Jorus, finding him in the dungeons of some godsawful torture chamber. No matter what they did to him, he refused to talk. That was until they mentioned his son.
Days later he returned to the Wolves, his eyes a little more haunted, most suspect it has to do with watching his men die, and nearly doing so himself... but little do they know the choice he's been forced to make. His son, or his brother...
Thomas Tevynter - Jorus's son is seven years old, and Jorus has been unable to see him, since he had left.
