CLOTHING:Heavy attire | Light attire
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
+ Loyal: Despite his track record with the Goths whereby he turned on them, he is loyal to his newfound country of Cassina, until death.
+ Considerate: Wary of past mistakes, he weighs every situation up with careful thought. Seeks out other solutions before fighting.
+ Combat Prowess: A veteran of the Gothic Armies, he brings unrivalled tactics to the environments he works in.
- Blind Hatred: Hateful towards the Empire due to his own bad experiences. Blind to the potential good it can serve.
- Trusting: Trust toward saurian tribes has caused him to be backstabbed more than once.
- Reputation: A reputation of horror stories surrounds Kruger. The Cassinans use this to their advantage as a scare tactic, while other nations tell stories of his infamous slaughter of his own men around campfires, despite it being justified in his mind.
What every good Goth strives to be - except that he is no longer a Goth at all. Loyal to serving his country (which now happens to be the Cassinan state of Florent), devotion to seeking out the best resolution to problems, and a drive to atone for past mistakes make him pure of heart. Though he accepts coin from Florent, it should not be thought that he can be bought or bribed by foreign agents; he would not entertain the notion for a single moment.
However, Kruger also has a dark side, revealed when dealing with the Goths or digging up his past - specifically the events in the jungle which earned him his most famous moniker. If backed into a corner with no way out, he can truly become Kruger The Mad, and live up to all those horror stories that are told about him.
He is humorous and optimistic about life within reason, but the fact that he spends most of his time seeking out adventure means light-hearted moments are few and far between; he is most often focused on the task at hand.
His motivations appear to be a mix of achieving success and writing wrongs; on one hand he is known to tirelessly search the jungles of the New World for the fabled Lost City, but at the same time gold does not seem so vital to his existence. Only asking the man himself what he truly wants from life would shed some light on the matter.
Frederic Kruger was born in the Holy Gothic Empire in 1464. Son of a soldier, his path in life was thought to be set from the moment he was born.
Though educated well, the hope that he would one day follow in his father's footsteps overshadowed all else. Inevitably he joined the Gothic Army at fifteen. By twenty he was stationed on the northern borders into the then Kingdom of Wyzkow.
During this time he met and fell in love with a local Wyzkowish village lass named Grazyna. She took his name despite the fact they were never married, and soon fell pregnant.
Frederic was prepared to leave the army for a life with Grazyna, but his commanding Reikmarshal considered it would be a dereliction of duty to leave service for a woman from across the border - for a Wyzack. So Kruger was blackmailed to stay in the army, threatened that his lover Grazyna and unborn daughter, to be named Elena, would be killed if he did not.
So fearing their safety, Frederic left one night, never to return.
This spurred the beginnings of resentment for his own country, yet he dutifully followed his career wherever it led over the next decade.
He was transferred to the Reikmarine at age 30, heading to the New World. His third expedition into the jungles saw him participate in the massacre of a peaceful saurian tribe for simply not wanting to trade with the regiment.
This horror was the last straw, and Kruger deserted, but not before beheading his own Reikmarshal while he slept, as well as eleven other officers who encouraged the slaughter of the saurians.
He wandered through the jungle for over a year after that. Some say the saurians took him in, taught him their ways. Whatever happened, one thing was persistent: the stories. Kruger The Mad, they called him, for what he had done to his own officers. His tale became one of New World legend.
And then, when everyone thought he was dead, the man emerged starving from the jungles, wandering in a Cassinan settlement.
By the time the Floretines learned who he was, he had already proven himself useful in pulling his weight around the fledgling colony. For his service he was not turned back over to the Goths, but given an honorary place among the Cassinan colonies.
He led several Cassinan expeditions into the jungle, negotiated peaceful trade with several tribes. And for his efforts was made an official citizen of Florent in 1504.
And he tried to keep doing good to make up for the terrible things he did under the Gothic Banner. A pillar of this redemption came in the form of Ælfsige, a mysterious elven woman he discovered washed up on the shores of the New World. By travelling with him, she filled a void in his life and became like the daughter he never knew.
